Leapforce Update

I have worked for Leapforce for 2 years now (see my previous Leapforce post), making an average of $300-400/month.  It’s a good job for me, but I’m not sure it is right for everyone.  It is very detailed work, and it is work, just because you are evaluating web sites does not mean you are being paid to “surf the internet”.  To be successful at this job you will need good analytical skills and the ability to understand and follow detailed directions.

When you are being evaluated for the job and while you are working for Leapforce you will have 100-200 pages of detailed guidelines you must learn and use to evaluate the websites you visit.  You can not make your own judgments about the websites, you must use their guidelines even if you do not agree with them. You will be evaluated on your work, both how many tasks you complete and how well you follow the guidelines.  This can be frustrating; some tasks do not seem to allow enough time to do a thorough evaluation.  Sometimes Leapforce will make adjustments to the allotted time for tasks, sometimes they don’t.

I don’t know how they evaluate the quality of your work.  My quality ratings have gone back and forth from good to bad and everywhere in between.  I don’t think that the quality of my work has really changed that drastically so my suspicion is that different people do the evaluations, or it may depend on which individual tasks they choose to evaluate you on, they can’t evaluate every task you do so they pick several at random (I think).  Fortunately they now provide very detailed feedback on each task they evaluated so you can understand your errors and (hopefully) not make the same ones again.  They do keep renewing my contract so it seems that they will keep you on as long as you aren’t getting consistently bad ratings, and they are much more lenient about poor ratings during your first six months.

One thing that is essential if you do this job is a good anti-virus program that is frequently updated.  You will at some point click on a malicious site and you have to rely on your antivirus program to stop anything from infecting your computer.  Norton has worked will for me for the last 2 years.  Also, be aware that you will occasionally end up on a porn site even if you tell Leapforce that you do not want to evaluate porn.  You can release a task with a porn site if you really don’t want to deal with it.

There are several types of tasks that you will be given to do.  I can’t go into the details about the tasks because of the confidentiality agreement I signed.  Some tasks are enjoyable to work on, some are tedious and some seem totally pointless.  You never know what type of tasks will be in your task list until you log in and start working.  Another bit of frustration comes when there is little or no work for you to do.  This happens most often in the summer, so you may not be able to make as much money in the summer as other times of the year.

In conclusion, working for Leapforce is much like any other job, frustrating and tedious at times, interesting an enjoyable at other times. The good points about working for Leapforce are that your work hours are flexible and you can do it from home and it pays better than other online work I have investigated.  The job still pays $13.50/hr.  You can work at any time of day and for as long as you want, providing there are tasks for you to do.

I am currently investigating 2 other sites that offer pay for doing online tasks, some of it is similar to work on Leapforce, except these sites pay by the task rather than by the hour as Leapforce does.

  1. Hi,

Thanks for the info. Do you think this would be a doable job for a person w/ a full-time job? I am looking to supplement my income.

    Thanks

  2. Thanks for your question. I have a full time job and I do Leapforce to supplement my income. It will be a lot of work, especially while you are training for it, but it can be done while working full time. I usually work on Leapforce a little bit in the morning before I go to my regular job, then often I'm back on Leapforce in the evenings too. Leapforce doesn't have a minimum amount of time you must work each week, so fit it in whenever you get a chance. Good luck with it.

  3. I know this is a little off topic, but I started working for leapforce in November, and I`d like to know how you feel about the way they pay. Does it always take so long to be paid, even after your invoice has been put in the payment queue? This is only going to be my third check from them, so I figured someone who's been there longer might have a better idea about it. This month my invoice was returned so I could fix a 30min discrepancy, and it was approved for payment on the 8th. Since it works within a window, does that mean I've missed my opportunity to be paid this month? Or is it just going to be awhile? I had a serious case of `counting chickens before I had the dang money in my hand` this week, so any information is appreciated. Thanks for reading.

    1. I'm usually paid around the 20th of the month, give or take a few days. Your pay will be delayed a few days because you had to revise your invoice, but you should still receive it this month. The only things that will speed up your pay is if you submit your invoice as soon as possible after midnight on the first day of the month, and try to limit the reporting errors, a revision will slow it down. Leapforce only guarantees pay within 30 days, so you just have to be flexible about when your pay arrives. I hope you get paid soon. Thanks for reading my blog.

  4. Hello Janice, I am glad you posted this article. I am thinking about trying Leapforce myself but am not sure yet. I have applied to become an agent and they have approved my application and have asked me to complete the qualification exam. I have a question for you: You said you make about $300-400/month. How many hours per month do you work? Thanks.

    1. I usually work 25-30 hours a month. The number of hours I work in any one day varies quite a bit depending on how much time I have. Leapforce is a good job that you can fit into your schedule whenever you have time. The problem is that sometimes when you want to work there are very few tasks available. That's why I look for other ways to make extra cash as well. Thanks for reading and for your question.

  5. Hi Janice, I've been with LF for only a couple months, and with my other job, I'm finding it tough to reach the 200 task mininum (per month). I'm just wondering if you could shed light on how strict LF is about this required minimum. I have read that summer is usually a slow season, and when I've logged on lately, there is often nothing. If I only completed 30 tasks for example each month, will my account eventually be suspended? And if so, would I get an email with a warning first? Thanks in advance for your input! -Sandra

    1. I'm sure I've had a couple of months during the summer when I was below 200 tasks, it can be slow in the summer. I'm sure that LF is aware of that and takes it into consideration.

I read the policy again and the way I read it is that there are only some projects (types of tasks) that may require you to meet the minimum. The policy uses the word "may" a lot so I think they are just leaving it open as a possibility. There are some projects that I don't even see in my tasks every month, so it can't be that you have to keep up a 200 minimum on all projects all the time.

If you want to have plenty of tasks available for you to work on I suggest that you keep your performance at or above average. Also LF will periodically provide opportunities to qualify for new projects, you will have to spend extra time reading new guidelines and taking qualification tests (usually paid) but it is worth the time to qualify for as many projects as possible so you will have work available for you more often.

Good luck and thanks for reading my blog.

  6. Thank you, Janice, for all the info. It has been very helpful. I have received the email saying that they will be sending me the tests on Mon. I am excited to get started. I just hope I pass the tests.

  7. Hi Janice, I just started working for LP. Could you please explain how do you keep track of your time while working. I am a little confused regarding the invoices and how to submit it. Thanks in advance!

    1. Ramona,

There are some automated ways of keeping track of your time, but I'm old fashioned, I keep a notebook next to the computer and write down when I start working, what type of tasks I do and the time I stop. Sometimes I want to write a note about something while I'm working so I like having the notebook there, and I have a record of what I've done.

To fill out your invoice, you click the My Invoices tab on your rater page, click "Create" to start a new invoice, then you add lines by clicking Modify Invoice then Add New Line for every work session, Enter what type of task you did and start and end times, then click Save Draft. You can't submit your invoice until the first of the month, even if you aren't going to work any more in the current month.

I hope that helps. You'll get the hang of it soon enough. Good luck and thanks for reading my blog.

  8. Where on the system does it keep track of the number of tasks you do? I am doing the tasks, but I don't know if my manual count is right.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Leapforce keeps track of the number of tasks internally on their server, your completed task count won't show up on your rater page. You don't have to keep track of the number of tasks you do, you only have to keep track of time you start and stop working. Some people like to keep track of the number of tasks to make sure they are doing them within the amount time that Leapforce expects. That is helpful if you are new and not sure whether you are working fast enough, but unfortunately you will have to go by your manual count.

If you are pretty sure you are working at the correct speed you don't need to bother keeping track of the number of tasks you do. After a few months of working for Leapforce my speed settled into the correct time frame and I could stop worrying about it.

      I hope that helps.

  9. 1. Is each "side-by-side" one task? Like each query?
    2. I didn't keep track of the time that I did my first two. But since they both said estimated time: 9 minutes, can I just make up a time of day that ends up being 18 minutes, like 6:00-6:18? Or will they know I'm making it up?
    3. Final question: After my first 2 or 3 queries of side-by-sides (I don't remember if I did 2 or 3 now that I think about it), I hit "submit and stop rating" because I had to go do something. But if I would have hit "submit", I'm sure I would have gotten more side-by-sides. But now on the evaluation platform screen, it doesn't show any side-by-sides. Was I not supposed to hit "submit and stop rating"?
On a side note: I'm disappointed in the way their site works, and how they don't explain much to you about this kind of stuff. You kind of have to google everything about leapforce to figure it out...

    1. A side-by-side task is complete when you have evaluated all the results and rated which side is best.

Leapforce knows when you log in to the server, they will know you are making it up if you get that time wrong. You can use your best guess if you didn't keep track but I would put a note about that on my invoice.

If you have to stop for a while "Submit and stop rating" is the correct button. Sometimes one type of task will disappear for a while and reappear later, I don't know why.

  10. Hello everybody. I want to start working for Leapforce. In their requirements LF asks for a gmail account with Google Play accessed at least once per week, Google+ more than once per month, with more than 11 people per circle and the web history turned on.
I have two google accounts: an older with web history until one year ago and a newer with all requirements except that the web history wasn’t enabled. which one should I use? Is it possible to send information from both?

    thanks in advance,

  11. i use rateraid to help keep track of my time and tasks, i love it!!

as for the google + question, are you applying for the social media something or other? for what i am doing is just an internet assessor. i don't remember them asking that. i know i applied at lionsbridge for something like social media and got turned down, i am assuming cause i did not have all that google + stuff

  12. Janice, thanks for all your effort here. It is very helpful to us, who are commencing on this job.

    I have a doubt...
let's say, the estimated time for completing a set of tasks would be 2 hours total.
I suppose, as I'm just starting, that my time will be above that, given that I like to be sure that I got my evaluations right and I often re-check data.
Let's say I spend 3 hours completing the tasks... can't I just submit my invoice saying that I spent 2 hours and 15 minutes , or something like that? I think this would be more fair to me and LF

Because, I figure, if I write that I spent 3 hours, anyway LF would ask me to revise my invoice to about 2 hours or so, wouldn't they?

    1. Rodrigo,
Thanks for your question. Its tricky to try to answer it, I think you should try to be as accurate in the times you report as possible. Because we work through their servers Leapforce knows how long we have worked on tasks anyway. As a new worker they are a little more relaxed in their speed and accuracy requirements, but don't take too long with your tasks. Your goal should be to work as efficiently as possible. If you spend too much time and then under report your time you are cheating yourself, but if you over report your time you will be asked to re-do your invoice.

To improve your accuracy be sure to go over their monthly evaluations of your work very carefully. They do give you good feedback so you can keep from making the same mistakes. As you keep working you will get faster and more accurate.

I know that wasn't a definite answer to your question but I hope this helped a little.

      Delete
    2. Yes, your answer was very helpful thanks..
So, just confirming. Do you think that, as I'm a beginner as an evaluator, they would accept my initial working time to be above the estimated total time?

      Delete
    3. Only by a few minutes, not the hour you gave in your previous comment. They still expect you to be working quickly, you can't take a lot of time even when you are learning. You don't have time to go back and re-check things, is better to make a few mistakes. Then be sure you go through the monthly evaluation of your work and learn from the feedback they give you. They expect some mistakes when you are learning and allow for that as long as you keep improving.

    4. Rodrigo, it happened to me when i sent my invoice this month. It took me more time than they expected to do my tasks (like i've done them in 13 min each and time expected were about 8 min) and they asked me to correct it. I sent a message to them telling that it was my first month and I have no much experience doing this job and that's why it took me longer to complete tasks and they accepted it. Don't know if they'll be so nice on my next month so it doesn't matter if I'm doing a task in 20 min, I'll put the time they expect me to do it on my invoice. =)

  13. Hmm, ok, I will follow your advices on this, ty so much, Janice.

But.. just one last question. Do you think LF would warn me or even fire me, if I happen to report an in-voice which has a significantly lower time than the one recorded on their servers?
Say like, spent 3 hours total, reported 2 hours and 15 minutes?
I just wanted to know, if by any chance I work too slow on this beginning.
(I'm kind of worried, since I spent like 45 minutes on each task of the qualification exam, when it probably should be like 10 minutes)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm really not sure what they would do. But I do know they expect you to be able to do the tasks within their estimated time. If you don't get up to that speed within your first few months they might not renew your contract. So work hard at getting up to speed.

      Good luck, Rodrigo.

  14. Hi I have a question, I am taking my exam on Monday and am hoping to start working. I was wondering, if I were to get hired, how long will it be before I receive my first paycheck, and what are the options for payment? Also, is there a max amount of hours you are allowed to work? I know it obviously depends on how many tasks are available, but say there was 40+ hours worth of tasks, would I be able to work and get paid for that much? Thanks in advance for your help!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. When you are hired you keep track of your work hours and submit the hours on an invoice once a month, on the first of the month. You will be paid for that work within 25 days of submitting it. So if you start work in April you would submit your invoice on May 1 and receive your pay by May 25th. The only option they have for payment is direct deposit with your bank. You probably won't be given 40hrs/week worth of tasks to begin with, you will have to work up to that by doing good work, they evaluate how you are doing monthly. You are not allowed to work over 40 hours a week.

      Hope that helps. Good luck!

    2. Thanks so much for getting back to me. I accidentally submitted my question before I was done typing and ending up asking on a different part of your blog, but I needed to ask a question for my cousin as well. He wants to apply too, but he doesn't want to if they are going to run a background check (he got into some trouble about 5 years ago that is still on his record), so do you know if they run a background check for at home agents? Do they even collect your social right away since you are an independent contractor?

  15. Hi I recently got a returned invoice its my first month and its wrecking my brain because I contacted them and I didn't get any help they only explained the policy. I know I went over on some tasks but only by 2-3 minutes most of the time but I dont know the specifics of the days or tasks to go and correct anything so what so I do?

    1. When they returned one of mine they told me how many minutes I should have invoiced for, so I just found the day that I thought the problem was on and adjusted the time that day to match what they wanted.

    2. I had to send it without it because they didn't tell the time. After I sent it then the returned it a second time with the time discrepancies so I corrected and re-submitted hopefully everything goes through this time. I recently installed Rater aide so I can track my time better and I also will be using paper.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, Leapforce is legitimate, I have been working for them for almost 3 years now. It is difficult to explain what I do as a rater, but basically I am shown a query that someone typed into a search box and then given several results to that query. Given the guidelines that Leapforce provides I rate how well those results satisfy the query and I also rate the quality of the web page for each of the results. Read my other posts about Leapforce for more information. If you really want to know what the job entails, apply for it. They will send you a link to the guidelines we use which will give you more information than I can supply in this blog.

    1. Mark, Thanks for your comments. I started working for Leapforce 3 years ago and the tests they gave were very different than they are now, so I don't know what the current test questions are like.

The only other work at home opps I've investigated I talked about here on the blog. I'm currently working on creating websites that sell ads and products. I've checked out Clickworker, there's a post on it on the blog, I found it didn't pay near as well as Leapforce and they wanted you to work much faster. Mturk, another one I wrote about, has some interesting tasks you can do, but again it doesn't pay much. So I think Leapforce is the best bet for working at home, so try the skills test and see what you think. Good luck!

  19. Hi, Janice! I just started working for Leapforce a week ago and I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out how to design my invoice to send at the end of the month. I've been keeping track of the date and time of each task I do and the amount of time I spend on each task. Do I need to do that or just the start and stop time for each block of time I work (like from 1600 hrs to 1700 hrs for six tasks)? I can't believe they don't have a sample invoice to help streamline the process. I would think it would be easier for them to process all of these invoices if they were all in the same style, you know? Anyhow, thanks for replying!

    1. Hi Gina,

Congratulations on passing the exam! The invoice isn't really that complicated. All they want is the total amount of time you work each day. If I work several sessions in one day, I keep track of the amount of time I work in each session and add them up. So you will have only one entry for each day your work. Also I would suggest not keeping track of the time for each task, I think that would take up more time that you could use working on the next task. Leapforce keeps track of that data at their end. I hope this helps.

I've been working for Leapforce for the past few months and fortunately there has always been work available from morning until night. When I logged in yesterday and today, there were no tasks available all morning. Is this the beginning of the slow summer season? How long does it last? Any tips on what time of day is better to log in to find available tasks? Thanks!

    1. I noticed that there wasn't much work last Sunday, so at least for this month things may be slowing down. Unfortunately I haven't discovered a consistent pattern except that if the work is going to slow down it is more likely to happen at the end of the month than at the beginning. I wish I could give you a more helpful answer but there just doesn't seem to be a consistent pattern to it.

I have started working on Yukon project from last Monday however, I do not see any task on Sat/Sun. Is it due to weekend? I don't think a work at home job should be off on weekends. I have received no quality feedback so far.

Does it sound normal or specific to me?

    Thanks

    1. Often in the summer there is less work available on Leapforce and there is always more work during the week than on the weekends. Also when you are new, they give you fewer tasks until you do well on your quality evaluations.

They give you feedback once a month and if you just started last week they probably won't have enough to evaluate until next month.

So be patient and do good work and more tasks will come your way.

  22. Hello Janice,

I am from India and I had applied for a job at Leapforce way back in Jan'2016, but never got a reply since then. Thereafter, few days back when I tried to apply for a new job, my status application says "You are currently in the qualification process. Please refer to the latest status email sent to you by Leapforce for instructions on what you need to do to complete your qualification process."

I never got latest email btw.

Will I be able to qualify for the next stage or has my application been rejected? If I have been rejected, can I delete my account and reapply?
